Zinc Plating Chemicals

Zinc plating involves the electrolytic application of zinc by immersing clean steel parts in a zinc salt solution and applying an electric current. We carry six different zinc plating products that are sure to fit your metal plating needs. They include: E-Brite Ultra-Alk, an alkaline non-cyanide zinc plating process; E-Brite Ultra-Chlor AP, a mixed ammonium/potassium chloride bright zinc plating process; E-Brite Ultra-Chlor NA , a non-ammoniated bright chloride zinc plating process, E-Brite ZNI, a patented zinc-nickel alloy process which provides the corrosion resistance of cadmium, and E-Brite 400 a cyanide zinc brightener. Our zinc plating chemicals are suitable for rack or barrel plating and large volume batches.

Benefits of Zinc Plating:

  • Ultra bright zinc deposit. Approaching that of chloride zinc.
  • Excellent ductility & adhesion. Maintains ductility even with thicknesses in excess of one mil.
  • A low stress deposit.
  • Superior zinc deposit plate distribution.
  • Consistent distribution.
  • Excellent chromate conversion coating receptivity.
  • Zinc deposit appearance is comparable to cyanide or chloride zinc.
  • Operates within wide range of bath chemistry.
  • Temperature tolerance up to 120˚F, which reduces cooling costs.
  • Excellent brightener stability and brightener life of 30,000 amp hours.
  • Suitable for either rack or barrel plating.
  • Simple waste treatment procedure.
  • A reliable, easy to maintain process.
  • It contains no complexers or chelating agents.
  • It accepts all hexavalent and trivalent chromates.

Copper Plating Chemicals

Surfatech | Trimega Inti Selaras as official distributor for EPi is synonymous with copper plating performance without equal for over 50 years. Have a challenge with your copper plating process? We can take on your challenge!

Copper Plating Benefits

    • One solution serves as both a strike and a plate bath.
    • Eliminates the inherent dangers of cyanide in the work place and improves employee health and safety.
    • Eliminates the concern for a catastrophic accidental acidification of cyanide.
    • No cyanide in F-006 sludges.
    • No danger of cyanide if a fire occurs in a plant.
    • Eliminates waste treatment costs for destroying cyanide.
    • Lower copper concentration which means less sludge generation.
    • No carbonates to be treated. No carbonate sludge containing cyanide.
    • Eliminates the Toxic Release Inventory report for cyanide.
    • The accidental drag-in of E-Brite Ultra-Cu into an acid copper solution poses no health hazards.
    • Reduces fire and liability insurance premiums.
    • E-Brite Ultra-Cu has excellent bath stability and high efficiency. The bath does not have to be dumped as with other baths due to breakdown products or iron buildup.
    • The bath is easily maintained by monitoring the pH and copper metal concentration.
    • It has a very wide operating window.
    • It is easily installed in existing plating lines with only a new liner required for the cyanide copper tank. One tank of E-Brite Ultra-Cu  serves the purpose of both the copper strike and the copper plate.
    • E-Brite Ultra-Cu is supplied as a liquid concentrate which is diluted with water.

Black Oxide

Black Oxide & Metal Blackening

EPI manufactures both hot black oxide and cold black oxide metal blackening processes. Black Oxide applications include automotive, industrial, architectural, hardware, consumer, medical, machine tool, firearm, military, and electronic product lines. Check out our Black Oxide Video Series on You Tube, our Black Oxide Library, & EPI’s Black Oxide FAQs for additional information. Read our new Electrochemicals Blog that has great information about the metal finishing industry, our products including Black Oxide, and upcoming events.

Looking to upgrade, expand or add a black-oxide metal blackening line? EPI provides turnkey blackening setups to make your installation a quick, easy, and inexpensive process. Turnkey Black Oxide Equipment Line

Hot Black Oxide: Ultra-Blak 400

Ultra-Blak 400 Hot Black Oxide is a conventional hot (285 F) process which produces a true black iron magnetite finish. It is a premium grade salt mixture which will blacken a wider range of steel alloys than any other process on the market. The Ultra-Blak 400 finish meets military specification MIL-DTL-13924D Class 1 as well as Aerospace Material Specification AMS 2485H. The black oxide penetrates and protects the surfaces, while blackened parts retain their surface properties and dimensions.

  • What can be blackened with Ultra-Blak Black Oxide?
Steel, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron, Copper, Brass, Cadmium, Zinc, Nickel, and Electroless Nickel

Cold Black Oxide: Insta Blak 333

Insta-Blak 333 is the preferred room temperature black oxide process for the safe and convenient in-house blackening. It produces a super deep blackness and corrosion resistance equal to hot oxide blackeners. It is an excellent non-bleed out black finish for powdered metal and cast iron. It is the number one room temperature blackening for ferrous metals.

  • What can be blackened with Insta-Blak 333 Room Temperature Black Oxide?
Iron, Steel, Stainless Steel, Zinc, Cadmium, and Aluminum

Benefits of Black Oxide:
Black Oxide can be used on a wide range of equipment from small fasteners up to heavy machine table tops. Black Oxide imparts a uniform black color while improving corrosion resistance, lubricity, anti-galling properties without altering the dimensions of a metal part.

Below is a chart to help you select between our two metal blackening processes: Ultra-Blak Hot Black Oxide and Insta-Blak Room Temperature Metal Blackening.
